Precis writing example 10

"Fire! Fire!" What awful things to hear when you wake up in the middle of the night in a strange house. My room was located on the top floor of a big, old, wooden house that burned beautifully. I leaped from my bed, unlocked the door, and entered the hallway. Thick smoke filled the air.

I started to run, but since I was still only partially conscious, I ran in the opposite direction of the stairs. I saw flames everywhere as the smoke grew thicker. My bare feet started to get hot on the floor. I sprinted into a room to reach the window after spotting an open door.

However, I fell before I could react because one of my feet got caught in something soft. I picked up the object I had fallen on to shield my face from the heat and smoke because it felt like a bundle of clothing. The floor suddenly gave way beneath me, and I fell to the ground below, surrounded by charred wood fragments.

I covered my face with the bundle and fled when I noticed a flaming doorway ahead. Even though I had terrible foot burns, I managed to get through. My bundle of clothes let out a thin cry as I arrived outside in the chilly air. I was so surprised that I almost dropped it. Then I noticed people congregating in the street. When she saw me, a woman wearing a borrowed man's coat and a nightgown screamed and ran wildly.

"My boy!" "My boy!" she exclaimed. As she removed the smoke-blackened bundle from my arms, the audience erupted in cheers. It was a little hard for me to identify her. I had saved her baby, and she was the mayor's wife. I was a hero.
